He tested positive for the disease almost two weeks ago, and was admitted to hospital on Sunday evening after his symptoms persisted.

Dominic Raab

Dominic Raab, the Foreign Secretary, has taken on the Prime Minister’s responsibilities temporarily, chairing meetings with the cabinet and leading daily press conferences.

Speaking at the live briefing yesterday, Mr Raab said the Prime Minister was receiving standard oxygen treatment and was breathing without assistance.

The Foreign Secretary called Mr Johnson “a fighter”, and said he was confident that the Prime Minister would recover “in short order”.

Several high ranking officials have tested positive or shown symptoms of coronavirus, including Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack, Health Secretary Matt Hancock, and Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty. All three have recovered and returned to work.

A further update on Mr Johnson’s condition is expected later today.
