Nicola Sturgeon shares heartfelt tweet, saying 'we should never again take for granted something as simple as giving someone a hug'

Nicola Sturgeon has shared a heartfelt tweet showing a picture taken while she was on the campaign trail one year ago to the day.

The First Minister shared the photo on the social media platform along with the message: “This photo was taken a year ago today on the general election campaign trail.

"It’s like glimpsing a bygone world.

"Covid has robbed us of so much.

"When it’s over - as it eventually will be - we should never again take for granted something as simple as giving someone a hug.”

The picture was one of many taken in Uddingston in 2019.

Ms Sturgeon has announced that restrictions will be loosened of the festive period this year, but has stressed that it is important that the public are still cautious.

Although families from different households will be allowed to meet indoors for a few days over Christmas, the Scottish Government have asked that people do this only if necessary.
