Nicola Sturgeon: Scotland’s regional lockdown levels to be reviewed next week amid ‘volatile case numbers’

The Scottish Government will review the regional lockdown levels next week, the First Minister has announced, in the light of “volatile case numbers” in certain regions of Scotland.

The decision marks a change from previous directives, which suggested that today’s review would be the last before January.

Speaking at First Minister’s Questions, Ms Sturgeon told MSPs: “I can confirm that Cabinet decided this morning - as a precaution - to review the levels again next week.

She said the Scottish Government had decided not to wait until January 5, 2021, to review the levels amid “the rising or volatile case numbers being recorded in some parts of the country.”

Ms Sturgeon added that she had also asked the Minister for Parliamentary Business to work with the Business Bureau to agree contingency arrangements, “so that if we require to increase the level of protection in any area over the recess period, we will be able to notify Parliament accordingly.”
