Covid deaths reported at West Lothian care home

A West Lothian care home has recorded a Covid-19 outbreak with reports of up to five elderly residents succumbing to the coronavirus.

A number of residents and staff at the Burngrange Care Home are understood to be receiving treatment.

The 40-bed facility – run by West Lothian Council – was closed to new admissions and visitors when the first case was discovered last week.

A spokesperson for the West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership said: “There have been a number of positive Covid-19 cases at Burngrange Care Home.

“We are working closely with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection Team and staff at Burngrange Care Home to provide assistance and support to those affected.

“This is a challenging time for everyone involved and our thoughts are with residents, families and staff who have been directly impacted by this situation. Staff in the care home are working extremely hard and have a real commitment to the residents’ safety.”
