The accused, from Cumbernauld, made no plea and the case was continued for further examination.

The North Lanarkshire council member was released on bail and no date has been set down as yet for his return to the court.

Former SNP councillor Hogg, known as Paddy, was arrested outside the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh following a large scale demonstration against the Covid 19 lockdown rules on September 10 this year.

A similar gathering had also been held at the capital’s Holyrood Park the previous week.

Both events attracted large crowds with participants from across the country.
