Coronavirus in Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon tweets as France and Ireland prepare for fresh lockdowns

Scots have been urged to follow public health advice by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, as countries in Europe announce fresh lockdowns.

Last night, the French Government put Paris and the surrounding region on “maximum alert level” in preparation for fresh “circuit breaker” restrictions.

The exact rules to be imposed on the area will be detailed later today and are set to last for 15 days.

It comes as the Irish National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) wrote to the Government yesterday, recommending the highest level of restrictions should be reimposed on the entire country for four weeks.

In her first tweets since Friday, Nicola Sturgeon told followers that the “common theme” in both countries was that coronavirus “is on the rise”.

The First Minister urged Scots to: “Please follow all the public health advice.

“In particular, please don’t visit other people’s houses - we hope this will help stem spread.

“Thank you,” she finished.

Yesterday, there were 758 new cases of coronavirus in Scotland.
