Coronavirus in Scotland: country sees daily jump of 558 new Covid-19 cases

No new deaths have been reported which leaves Scotland's death toll at 2,510.

Scotland has seen its biggest daily rise in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began with 558 people testing positive in the last 24 hours.

Of these, 255 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 119 in the Lothians and 61 in Lanarkshire, according to the Scottish Government’s recent figures.

The remaining 123 cases have been confirmed in nine other health boards across the country.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced 89 people are currently being treated in hospital with Covid-19, four more than yesterday and 11 patients are intensive care, one up in the last 24 hours.

No new deaths have been reported which leaves Scotland's death toll at 2,510.

Ms Sturgeon said while most of the recent cases have been impacted by outbreaks at universities in Scotland, it is not just a university problem, and she urged the public to remain conscious of the Scottish Government guidelines.

So far, 26,518 people in the country have tested positive for coronavirus.
