Coronavirus in Scotland: 1,707 new cases and 64 deaths recorded today as 208,207 vaccinated

Scotland has recorded 64 deaths of Covid-19 patients and 1,707 new cases in the past 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

The death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is now 5,166.

Speaking at the start of First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood, Ms Sturgeon said the daily test positivity rate is 8.3%, down from 10.2% on Wednesday, when 1,949 positive cases were recorded.

A total of 157,079 people have tested positive in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

There are 1,829 people in hospital confirmed to have Covid-19, up by 35 in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 142 are in intensive care, a rise of eight in the same period.

Ms Sturgeon also announced 208,207 people in Scotland had received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination as of Wednesday.

The Public Health Scotland statistics indicate an increase of 16,242 on the 191,965 vaccinated 24 hours previously.
