Coronavirus in Scotland: 123 new cases in the Lothians as country records 32 new deaths and 1,018 cases in 24 hours

A total of 123 new cases have been reported in the Lothians in the last 24 hours as Scotland sees a rise of 32 deaths and 1,018 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday.

Of the new cases, 391 were confirmed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 162 in Lanarkshire, and 123 in the Lothians.

The remaining cases were reported from eight other mainland health boards across the country.

To date, 1,234 people are being treated for Covid-19 in hospital, an increase of 22 from yesterday, and 88 people are in intensive care, 3 more from yesterday, having recently tested positive for the virus.

A total of 86,630 in Scotland are confirmed to have had the virus since the start of the outbreak in March, according to government figures.

The country’s death toll currently stands at 3,459 under the daily measurement.

At today’s briefing, Nicola Sturgeon said: “Every single one of these deaths represents an individual whose loss will be causing grief and heart break and yet again I want to convey my condolences to everyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one.”

The new 1,018 cases represents 4.8 per cent of new tests that were carried out yesterday.
