Captain Moore finished the walk in his Bedfordshire garden in front of family members and soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment, the modern-day equivalent of the regiment he served with in WWII.

“It’s an honour and a privilege for us to be here to support Tom,“ said Major Ian Atkins.

“We see Tom very much as a member of the regimental family.”

After finishing his challenge Captain Moore sat down to watch a video compiled by the BBC of people around the country congratulating him on his effots.

The 99-year-old has raised over £12 million for NHS charities together, a collection of official charities supporting the NHS.

He is the biggest-ever fundraiser for the site, a title previously held by Stephen Sutton MBE, teen blogger and activist who fundraised for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Mr Sutton, who died in 2014, raised more than £5 million and was posthumously honoured by the Queen.
