Coronavirus: Scottish students will be allowed to return to pubs and restaurants this weekend

Students in Scotland will be allowed to go to pubs, bars and restaurants this weekend.

Last weekend, students across the country were urged by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon not to visit hospitality venues in a bid to control a number of outbreaks of coronavirus in student accommodation across the country.

Parties were also strictly forbidden and students ordered not to socialise outside their household, with governing body Universities Scotland warning that any rule breaches would "not be tolerated”.

It implemented a “yellow card/red card approach” for anyone who who was found to be breaking the new rules, with the possibility of students having their studies discontinued as a last-resort punishment.

While parties will still be outlawed, the Scottish Government has clarified that the ban on visiting pubs, bars and restaurants was for last weekend only, and they are not expecting Universities Scotland to make a similar ask of students this coming weekend.
