Coronavirus in Scotland: new cases continue to surge as 2,045 new cases and 43 deaths reported

Daily figures from the Scottish Government reveal that a total of 2,045 new cases and 43 deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

This takes the total number of positive cases of coronavirus up to 124, 831 in Scotland.

Sadly, there have been 43 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive for the virus recorded today with the Scottish Government noting that Register Offices have been closed over the public holidays.

Out of the 19,722 new tests for coronavirus that reported results, 11.3% of these were positive.

69 people are in intensive care and 1,133 people are in hospital with recently confirmed covid 19.

The total number of deaths of people have died who have tested positive for the virus to 4,510.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is expected to give a covid update at parliament at 3.30pm today, following a debate on the Brexit trade agreement.

Tweeting this morning about the Oxford vaccine approval, Ms Sturgeon said it was “much needed good news on the Covid front” but that Scotland still has “some difficult winter weeks ahead.”
