Concern over role of ‘free radicals’ in elderly

SCOTS scientists are to investigate the role of “free radicals” in the aging process.

Researchers from Glasgow University are conducting a study to discover how oxygen damages cells over time.

Despite the body’s protective mechanisms, “oxidative damage” occurs to cells and tissues and the molecules contained within them throughout a person’s life. It is thought to be key to the mechanisms of many chronic diseases, particularly those associated with ageing, including some cancers and arthritis.
