Carer breaks up for award

AN innovative council service to provide breaks for carers has been shortlisted for a major Scottish care award.

The BreakAway scheme gives adults with learning difficulties choices on how to spend their respite time, with the option to take short breaks or go to social events rather than taking a fixed number of nights at a respite centre.

It is nominated in the One to Watch – Adults and Older People category of the Care Accolades 2012 awards.

Health leader Councillor Ricky Henderson said: “I’m delighted BreakAway has been recognised for the innovative work it does.”
