Glen Coe climber rescued after 50ft fall

A climber has been rescued after falling nearly 50ft from a mountain rockface in Glen Coe.

The man and his climbing partner, both from the local area, got into difficulties on Aonach Dubh on Monday.

Members of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team went to his aid just after midday.

Rescuers used rucksacks and walking poles to make splints and carried the man to an area where a helicopter could reach him.

Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team said it was a "tricky" rescue due to the terrain where the man fell.

Team leader Andy Nelson, who had been in the area with another team member, was involved in the rescue.

He said it required "brilliant" flying from the crew of Stornoway Coastguard helicopter to get close enough to winch the climber onboard.

The rescue team later posted on Facebook: “Great teamwork between climbers, rescue team members and Coastguard Rescue Helicopters from Inverness and Stornoway. Well done all, including the stoical casualty! Best wishes for a swift recovery.”
