The French striker is expected to leave Celtic Park this summer with a glut of clubs interested in his signature as he enters the last year of his contract.

And Deeney, who this season helped Watford return to the English Premier League reckons the 23-year-old would be a shrewd buy.

He told talkSPORT: “Edouard I like. [Alfredo] Morelos is different, in front of goal when he is on form he is different class but Edouard is another I really like. He takes his goal. I think he is suited to the top flight in England.

“He is powerful, he is quick enough and has an eye for goal. His goal-scoring record – I don’t think he has been particularly good consistently this season with Celtic – but his goalscoring record for the French-Under-21s is remarkable. He could play in a team in the big league. Absolutely.”
