Tour sparks an interest in science

A SCIENCE tour of Scottish schools kicked off at St Ninian’s RC Primary yesterday, where pupils explored ways to harness human energy to produce electricity.

The Power from the People workshop offers pupils the chance to work with dynamos and is designed to tie in with NVA’s Speed of Light project, which will transform Arthur’s Seat into an illuminated hillside with walkers and runners activating equipment partially designed to harvest energy.

Angela Brack, headteacher at St Ninian’s RC Primary School, said: “We hope the workshop will give our pupils a fun insight into how electricity is created and how different our lives would be without it.

Angus Farquhar, NVA creative director, said: “Power from the People, which will see young people work with science experts explaining the science behind the project, is a fantastic partner which will help engage primary school children.”
