Teacher upset by 'babe' tag

AN ENGLISH teacher claims she was sexually harassed by her headteacher when he called her "babe", an employment tribunal was told yesterday.

Mary Robinson’s claims were investigated by Glasgow City Council, but officials ruled the behaviour of the headteacher, Chris Nairn, did not amount to sexual harassment.

George Gardner, a senior education official, said the council, accepted that Mrs Robinson, 40, had experienced a degree of embarrassment and discomfort but decided the behaviour of Mr Nairn, head of St Roch’s Secondary School in Glasgow, was not sexual harassment, although he was cautioned. Mr Gardner said the expression "babe’’ was part of Mr Nairn’s style.

The hearing continues.
