Teacher banned for life

A TEACHER who assaulted a pupil and employed illegal restraint techniques has been banned from teaching for life.

James McMenemy, who taught at the troubled Kerelaw residential school in Ayrshire, was found guilty of five of the 15 charges against him and was struck from the teaching register following a General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) disciplinary hearing in Edinburgh yesterday.

The tribunal decided McMenemy, 48, assaulted Pupil A at the school between 1 November 2001 and 31 December 2003. He was also found guilty of using “unlawful restraints” on pupils on four occasions between October 1993 and March 2004.
