Storytelling bear drops in for stay

A SIX-FOOT bear has checked in to one of the Capital's hotels this week to write another tale.

Baxterbear arrived at the Caledonian Hilton on Tuesday, where his tales have been given to hotel visitors over the festive period.

The series of short stories charts his narrow-escape as co-pilot of an RAF Hurricane, through to modern day tales, including enjoying afternoon tea at the Caledonian Hilton.

Many of Baxterbear's previous tales have been penned in and around the hotel, and general manager of the Caledonian Hilton, Willy Blattner, said: "Baxterbear is following in the footsteps of Laurel and Hardy, Sir Sean Connery and Michael Douglas by taking up residence at the Caledonian Hilton Hotel.

"Having been a regular visitor since the 1930s, and a true aficionado of the Caley's afternoon tea, Baxterbear is returning to his home away from home."

He added: "We hosted an introduction to Baxterbear in the run up to Hogmanay last year and the demand for Baxterbear and his stories was incredible.

"Our bellman Billy features in some of the stories and is already starting to gather a small Baxterbear fanbase.

"We're delighted that Baxterbear has chosen to welcome in the New Year at the Caledonian Hilton with some of his biggest fans."
