SQA pledges to 'ensure that their hard work is rightly and fairly recognised' after exams are cancelled

Fiona Robertson, Scotland Chief Examining Officer and SQA Chief Executive has released a statement saying that they ‘fully appreciate that this will be an uncertain time for learners’ and pledges to work hard to ‘ensure that their hard work is rightly and fairly recognised’.

This statement is made after Education Secretary John Swinney announced the exams across the country would be cancelled for the first time in Scotland’s history.

The statement confirms that results will now be based on coursework and estimated grades, and adds that ‘everyone at SQA is fully committed to delivering for Scotland’s young people at this exceptionally difficult time.’

Grades will be still be released on August 4.
