Schoolboy's eye stabbed with pencil

A SIX-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being stabbed in the eye by a classmate.

The primary two pupil at Parsons Green Primary has had to undergo an operation on his eye and has remained off school since the incident.

It is understood he has been back to hospital for further check-ups and eye tests, though it is not clear whether there will be any lasting damage.

The young boy is said to have been accidentally stabbed with a pencil by another six-year-old boy as they were waiting to have lunch at around 12.15pm. One of the school's

teacher's witnessed the incident which happened last Thursday and called on the primary's first aider, who treated the boy initially.

However, it quickly became apparent that the injury was more serious than it first appeared when the swelling did not go down.

The boy's mother was called to the Meadowfield Drive school and she took him for medical treatment.

The schoolboy underwent an operation and is recovering at home.

A spokesman for the city council said: "This was a very unfortunate accident and the school are in contact with the parents.

"We wish the young pupil a very speedy recovery."

One parent who contacted the Evening News said the pupil's injuries could result in him losing his sight, however his claims could not be confirmed by education bosses.

The parent said: "A boy of six years old was stabbed in the eye by another child of the same age.

"The injured boy has had an emergency operation and may lose his sight, he has to have another operation in the coming weeks."
