£50m boost for university

EDINBURGH University has secured a £50 million loan to improve teaching and learning.

The cash, from the European Investment Bank, will for an “ambitious refurbishment” of the university, including extensive improvements to the ageing library at George Square and the creation of the new Edinburgh Centre for Climate Change, it was reported today.

The loan follows on from about £1.6 billion worth of investment by the EIB in UK education over the past five years. The refurbishment of the library should create an extra 600 study spaces.
