Portrait fit for the King's

A PORTRAIT of the 20th century's most famous opera singer and operatic actress Maria Callas has been presented to the King's Theatre.

Researcher, lecturer and music reviewer Peter Hudson presented the picture, commemorating Callas' visit to the city in August 1957 and her performance of La Sonnambula by Vincenzo Bellini at the King's.

Callas made only one visit outside London during her stay in the United Kingdom, and that was to perform at the Edinburgh venue.
