Parents vow fresh protests over closures

DEFIANT parents are to stage a fresh round of protests over plans to close 11 primary schools and nine nurseries, it was revealed last night.

Protesters in Glasgow are due to begin a new series of demonstrations today by forming human rings around the facilities earmarked for closure.

Glasgow City Council approved plans earlier this month to shut the facilities and move pupils elsewhere in the city. It said the closures were needed to address falling school rolls and deteriorating buildings.

But parents are concerned the changes will lead to larger class sizes, lower standards and longer travelling distances.

Glasgow Save Our Schools (SOS) Campaign organiser Richie Venton said the fresh protests would start at 3pm today with people forming rings round the threatened schools.
