Parent and teachers must ‘co-operate to help kids’

A CALL has been made for parents and schools to work together to help children with behavioural problems after a seven-year-old was excluded from a city primary school for threatening to “blow up” his teacher.

The boy’s mother accepted that his behaviour had been wrong but accused the school of being too heavy-handed, while the city council said the decision had been taken following a “series of events” at the school.

Tina Woolnough, Edinburgh parent representative on the National Parent Forum of Scotland, said: “What is important is that parents and schools work together to address problems constructively, with a clear focus on helping the child to learn to manage his or her behaviour so that he or she can learn.”
