New rector announced

A WRITER, activist and charity worker has been announced as the next rector of Edinburgh University.

Peter McColl will serve for three years from March, succeeding journalist Iain Macwhirter. His election was uncontested.

Mr McColl, 31, an alumni, former Green adviser and self-styled anti-fees campaigner, said: “I will ensure staff and students are listened to at the top of the university. The rector’s position as chair of the university court is a vital part of good governance and I look forward to ensuring that this continues.”
