Glasgow’s Jordanhill gets top marks for curriculum

INSPECTORS have praised one of the country’s leading schools for its implementation of Scotland’s fledgling curriculum.

Education Scotland rated Jordanhill School in Glasgow’s west end as “excellent” or “very good” across all five key indicators, making it one of a small number of schools to achieve the distinction since increased expectations were introduced with Curriculum for Excellence.

Jordanhill is the only state-funded school in Scotland that is outwith council control; it is run by an independent board of governors.

Dr Bill Maxwell, the chief executive of Education Scotland, said: “As our inspection shows, Jordanhill is a notably high-performing school which has fully embraced the opportunities which the new curriculum presents.”

Star Primary School in Fife was also praised. Joyce White, headteacher for the past 23 years, was singled out for being an “inspirational leader”.
