Diary factory is hit by fire

WORKERS at Charles Letts & Co diary makers in Dalkeith were evacuated yesterday after a "small fire" broke out in the factory.

Fire crews quickly contained the blaze, which started in the extraction system and was spotted by an employee who raised the alarm.

Company chief executive Gordon Presly said there was only "minimal damage" caused.

"It was a small incident caused by a minor engineering fault which saw some sparks to travel to the dust extraction unit," he said.
