The island is owned by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and it is thought the school would be re-opened if and when another family with children moved to Canna.

NTS is seeking ways to attract new families to the island.

Canna has a population of 17 people and is one of the Small Isles, which also includes Rum, Muck and Eigg.

The NTS will “discuss a strategy for the future development of Canna” after meeting with organisations including the isle of Canna Community Development Trust.
