Campaign to raise issue of hidden abuse

A CAMPAIGN aiming to raise awareness of domestic abuse against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people has been launched.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind has been launched across Edinburgh and the Lothians in partnership with Scotland's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) domestic abuse project.

The campaign consists of an awareness-raising poster and an information leaflet, which includes a range of local contacts for LGBT people who are experiencing domestic abuse.

There are at least 500,000 LGBT people living in Scotland, and around one in four will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

A spokeswoman for Scotland's LGBT domestic abuse project said: "The reality is that domestic abuse is being experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Scotland. However, LGBT people's experience of domestic abuse is still very much hidden and many incidents of domestic abuse go unreported."
