Director sought for leading Scottish woodland conservation charity

If you know your Pinus sylvestris from your Betula pendula and where to find remnants of the ancient Caledonian Forest then what may be your dream job has just come up for grabs.

One of the country's best-known conservation charities is seeking a new leader in Scotland – tree-huggers should definitely apply.

The Woodland Trust is looking for a new Scotland director, whose responsibilities will include shaping long-term strategy, promoting the trust’s work and inspiring people to protect, restore and create forests across the country.

The ideal candidate will be “an inspirational leader” with a strong background of steering teams at a senior level, preferably in the conservation or environmental sector.

In addition, they will need to be a “strong communicator” and able to promote the work of the Woodland Trust “with energy, flair and imagination” to high-level partners, funders and stakeholders.

The advertisement states: “We engage and inspire people about woods and trees helping them to protect and restore irreplaceable ancient woodlands, and create the wooded landscapes of the future, today.”

It continues: “There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust.

“Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees.

“In return, we recognise and value our people.”

As well as more trees and woodland than you can shake a stick at, not to mention world-famous wildlife such as ospreys, the position comes with an attractive salary – £55,000 to £65,000 a year – good holiday entitlement, private healthcare, “generous” pension and flexible working options.
