David Patrick appointed as new Bruntsfield Links pro

Former Walker Cup player David Patrick has been appointed as the new PGA professional at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, succeeding Richard Brian at the world’s fourth oldest club.

David Patrick, who played in the 1999 Walker Cup, is to succeed Richard Brian as the professional at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society.

The 45-year-old Edinburgh man won on the Challenge Tour after turning professional before tuning his attention to coaching and had been in the role of Scottish women’s national coach.

In a double appointment by the capital club, former Scottish Boys’ Stroke-Play champion Shaun McAllister, who has been at Bruntsfield Links for five years, will step into a new role as PGA teaching professional.

Bruntsfield Links captain David Lawson said: “These are significant and exciting appointments for the Society, aimed at providing members with the very highest standard of PGA Professional service and support, whilst enhancing the Society’s reputation more broadly.

“David and Shaun are committed to these objectives and look forward to supporting all our members in the months and years ahead.

“The new Society set-up ensures that they have time and scope to develop coaching opportunities for our members.”

Patrick, who was a member of Mortonhall as an amateur, played on a winning Walker Cup team alongside Paul Casey and Luke Donald at Nairn in 1999.

He won the Skandia PGA Open on the Challenge Tour in Sweden in 2005 before switching his focus to coaching.

He was initially based at Elie Sports Centre and has latterly worked out of Kingsfield Golf Centre, near Linlithgow.

McAllister came through the ranks at Craigielaw and played on the PGA EuroPro Tour before taking up a PGA post at Bruntsfield under Brian.
