Danny Macaskill: Scotland's biggest YouTube star

Stunt cyclist Danny Macaskill is undoubtedly one of the biggest Scottish stars on social media.His Drop and Roll Tour last year was a major hit worldwide, and he revealed to The Scotsman that he has many more surprises for 2017. He said: “2016 was a very eventful year for me personally. I spent a lot of time on various projects and on my bike.

“A highlight was also going to the Philippines with my friends on the Drop and Roll Tour shortly before Christmas. “Achievements is a very big word - I tend to let my clips do the talking and the fans decide whether a project is successful or not - but publishing a book was a first.”

And what of 2017: “I have got a long list of ideas, but will keep the surprises up my sleeve for the time being.”

However. one event is now set in place - local hero Danny has just announced that he’s bringing his Drop and Roll tour of street trials stunts home to Skye.

In addition to a line up of over 30 Scottish folk music and cutting edge dance and electronica acts and a stunning island location, Skye Live festival goers can also catch a daredevil display of skills - made famous in the iconic jaw-dropping movie, The Ridge

Danny and his Drop and Roll crew will be performing an action packed display of trick jumps and technical riding on 29 and 30 April in Skye’s capital, Portree.Drop and Roll is a street trials stunt display tour co-founded by Skye biker Danny and Duncan Shaw. The Drop and Roll team of four is completed by Ali Clarkson and Fabio Wibmer.

Danny said: “I’m really excited to be bringing the Drop and Roll show to Skye. I love performing with this team and I wanted to show the other guys what a great place Skye is.

“I can’t think of a better way of doing that than performing at Skye Live - it’s going to be awesome.”

The Drop and Roll riders have been rocking out at events throughout Europe for over a year, entertaining crowds with their awesome skills.

At Skye Live they will join an eclectic mix of acclaimed dance and electronic acts interspersed with contemporary and traditional Scottish performers including Simian Mobile Disco, Capercaillie, Treacherous Orchestra, A League of Highland Gentlemen, Bicep, Jackmaster and Mercury Music Prize nominee C Duncan.
