Co-founder James Watt, pictured right, said the Barcelona pub has capacity for 100 drinkers and will serve 20 beers on tap, including a Spanish selection.

He added: “The demand for craft beer in Spain has been growing year on year, and our exports to the country also reflect this trend. We have listened to the fans and set up our first outpost in the Iberian peninsula.”

BrewDog has 18 UK pubs and recently appointed former G1 operations director David McDowall as managing director of its bars business, which now runs eight international sites including Tokyo and Stockholm. Further outlets in Glasgow’s Merchant City, Berlin, Brighton and Dalston are in the pipeline.

The Ellon-based firm, founded in 2007, last month launched an import and distribution division after agreeing a deal to bring US peer Stone Brewing Co’s ales to these shores.
