The company, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, has been supplying the supermarket chain for three decades and managing director Gordon Allan said 200,000 pies will be delivered in time for New Year.

He added: “It’s great to be introducing our biggest number of pies yet for our 30th year supplying Asda. Although we are no longer butchers on the high street, our relationship with Asda has allowed us to maintain our quality offering to millions of people, and as a result we have doubled our staff, and we’re exceeding sales expectations with figures growing by 20 per cent year on year.”

Asda sells about 575,000 Malcolm Allan steak pies in its Scottish stores each year, enough to feed more than two million people. It is also the country’s largest producer of lorne sausage, with 11 million sold in the past year.

Brian O’Shea, Asda’s regional buying manager for Scotland, said: “We are very proud to support local suppliers and in doing so offer our shoppers great tasting regional products at affordable prices, particularly around key trading times such as Christmas and Hogmanay.

“Malcolm Allan started off supplying our colleague canteens, and has quite simply grown and grown ever since. The product figures flying off our shelves speak for themselves and are testament to the strength of our relationship with them and of the quality of the products the supply.”
