Coronavirus in Scotland: Two new deaths reported as cases rise by 572

In the last 24 hours, Scotland has recorded the deaths of two people who tested positive for coronavirus in the previous 28 days.

It brings the total death toll in the country since the start of the pandemic to 7,131.

Statistics released by the Scottish Government also show that in the last 24 hours, 572 new cases of the virus were detected.

That figure represents 3.8 per cent of the 17,663 Covid-19 tests conducted in Scotland yesterday.

Of the tests, 8,127 were conducted by NHS Scotland labs, while 9,536 were handled by the UK Government testing programme.

The data also confirms that 837 people are currently in hospital being treated for coronavirus, including 78 patients in the nation’s intensive care units.

As Scotland’s vaccination rollout continues, today’s figures show that 1,593,695 people have now received their first dose.

At the same time, 76,512 Scots have also been given their second dose.
