Celtic loanee Jack Hendry named the best player in Belgium this season

Jack Hendry has been named the best player in the Belgian top flight for season 2020/21 by a respected football magazine.

The Celtic centre-back has been on loan at Oostende for the duration of the campaign and was recognised for his stellar play by Sport Voetbal.

The Scottish international’s ranking of 6.48 was just enough to come top of the magazine’s individual player table, 0.03 ahead of Genk’s Japanese winger Junya Ito.

Since moving to Oostende last summer he has helped the club improve from a relegation contender to a team that came within three points of the Championship play-offs and will instead battle for a place in the Europa League.

Hendry reacted to the award on social media, writing: “Thank you!! Very happy to be awarded this by @SportVoetbal, great season for the club and now a big push to get into Europe via play offs."

The 25-year-old was also quizzed by the magazine on his future. Oostende hold an option to buy the defender though Hendry would have to agree to any deal. He insists he’s just looking to play at the highest level as he refused to be drawn on a definitive answer regarding his employers next season.

He responded: “I know as much about that as you do: nothing.

"I thank KVO for being able to show my talent. Oostende has a purchase option and they want to activate it.

"The matter now is to reach an agreement. My wish is to play at the highest level, that is clear. And that can be in any competition."
