Celtic fans furious with referee after Devante Cole 'spinning kick' on Ismaila Soro

Celtic fans watched their side win for the second consecutive game with a 2-1 victory over Motherwell but were furious with match official Nick Walsh for showing only a yellow card to opposing striker Devante Cole.

Towards the end of the game the attacker was penalised for deliberately kicking Ismaila Soro in the chest as the Ivorian tried to move away with the football as Cole lay on the turf.

The referee decided that only a yellow card was worthy of punishment, something which angered home supporters who took to social media to vent their frustration:

@Jamie67_cfc said: “DEVANTE COLE JUST KICKED SORO IN THE CHEST ON PURPOSE AND THE REF DID NOTHING. WHAT THE F***?”

@NicholasMcadam2 referenced Rangers boss Steven Gerrard: “Soro just got karate kicked but mind we need ‘consistency’.”

@PhilipJBradley made WWE analogies: “Cole should have been off there. He tried to hit Soro with the Sweet Chin Music from the deck.”

@celtic_thoughts added: “How is that not a red card from Cole? He's intentionally kicked Soro in the chest, zero attempt to play the ball. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no corruption from referees, the standard is just simply awful across the country.”

@videocelts tweeted: “Clear back heel while grounded into stomach of Soro from Cole. No action. Only in Scotland.”

While @michaelmcp wrote: “That's should have been a straight red for the kick out at Soro. The Motherwell player was nowhere near the ball, full intention was to kick Soro.”
