Celtic and Rangers on alert as away goals rule set to be changed for next season's Champions League

Celtic and Rangers are set to be impacted by a change to the Champions League next season with Uefa ready to alter the away goals rule.

The rule will remain in place across 90 minutes. However, once a second leg goes into extra-time the away side will no longer gain an advantage. Plans to scrap the rule entirely were dismissed.

The changes are expected to be voted in this Friday, according to The Sun. The rule change will be in place for next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which will feature both halves of the Old Firm after Scottish football gained an extra spot ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The change will also affect the Europa League and the new Europa Conference League, which begins next season. Hibs and Aberdeen currently hold the places for the ECL with the Scottish Cup winner getting passage to the EL play-off round. Should one of the top two win the cup, third will get the EL prize.
