Worldwide fund share price rises 13.6%

Baillie Gifford's £195 million Edinburgh Worldwide investment trust has posted a 13.6 per cent share price rise for the six months to the end of April, narrowly outperforming its benchmark.

Its net asset value per share increased by 10.7 per cent over the six months, against 8.3 per cent growth in the MSCI All Countries World Index.

The trust, launched in 1998, has boosted its holdings in China by 15 per cent over the last five years, under the management of Mark Urquhart.

It said: "Despite current noise surrounding European sovereign debt, our long-term conviction in the changing world economic order continues to strengthen with each passing year.

"We remain optimistic about the outlook for the global economy and the investment opportunities available."
