Its products are already used by Police Scotland, pictured above, and are undergoing trials among other forces.

The cameras are also used by Edinburgh’s parking attendants and other customers include security firm G4S.

The funding, from Panoramic Growth Equity, is the first external investment brought in by Edesix. The cash injection will see Panoramic take a minority stake in the firm and partner David Wilson join its board.

Co-founder and chief executive Richie McBride said: “Our ambition is to become the market leader in secure body-worn video devices worldwide.”

McBride established Edesix with co-founder Robin Iddon in 2002. The pair had previously worked together at computer networking pioneer Spider Systems and founded Axon Networks, which was sold for $65 million (£40m) in 1996.
