Tributes paid after sudden death of Gleneagles Hotel chef

Tributes have been paid to a top chef at the world famous Gleneagles Hotel after his sudden death.

Gibb, 48, was executive chef at the world-famous Gleneagles Hotel

Alan Gibb, 48, suffered a massive stroke and died in Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital.

He was Gleneagles’ executive chef and was well known in the catering industry across the UK.

Mr Gibb had worked at the five-star hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire, for more than ten years and led a team of 70 chefs across four restaurants at the resort.

Gleneagles announced the news on social media and paid tribute to Alan, who leaves behind his wife Karen and son Liam.

A Facebook post said: “We are devastated to tell you our Executive Chef Alan Gibb passed away last night. Alan was not just a colleague, but a friend and inspiration to all of us at Gleneagles and we will miss him terribly.

“He was also respected for his talent and professionalism by generations of hotel guests and across the Scottish and UK catering and hospitality industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alan’s family at this sad time.”

He had formerly worked as head chef in the Balbirnie House Hotel in Markinch, Fife.

Balbirnie’s managing director Nicholas Russell paid tribute to Mr Gibb who he described as a “culinary visionary”.
