Timber firm takes swing at quadrupling its turnover

The new managing director of a Scottish timber products firm has set himself the ambitious target of quadrupling turnover in the next two years.

James Macdonald takes over at Muir Timber Systems, part of Inverkeithing-based Muir Group, amid a 2 million expansion programme which has involved investment in buildings and new technology.

Macdonald, 48, from Falkirk, has spent 23 years of his working life dealing with timber-related products.

A chartered engineer with a degree in production engineering from Edinburgh's Napier University, Macdonald has worked both north and south of the Border. He spent ten years with Norbord (formerly Caberboard) in Cowie and Inverness before moving to Oxford with Stewart Milne Timber Frame, then spent several years with Robertson Timber Kit.

He said the firm is well placed to take advantage of improving industry conditions: "I believe that we have the right team of people in place as we move forward," he added.
