Tait brings fresh energy to law firm

Gillespie Macandrew has powered up its energy team by recruiting lawyer Hazel Tait from SSE, formerly known as Scottish & Southern Energy.

Tait, who joins the Edinburgh-based law and finance firm as a partner, worked on a variety of renewable energy development projects while at the utility giant.

Kirsty Macpherson, the head of Gillespie Macandrew’s energy, climate change and natural resources group, said: “Hazel’s recruitment is an important one for the firm. She adds to the team’s expertise in renewable energy and, in particular, we welcome her experience in the development of offshore energy projects.”

Accountancy firm Grant Thornton is injecting some fresh thinking into its Scottish management team with the promotion of Neil McInnes to corporate finance director. Having trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with Grant Thornton in 2001, McInnes joined the corporate finance team nine years ago.

Managing partner Andrew Howie said: “We believe that fresh thinking is vital for all levels of the firm. Neil’s appointment brings another wave of talent to our main areas of business, which will ensure that in this current economic climate we are proving our clients with the right and most relevant expertise.”

Oil and gas industry veteran Bill Yuile is moving to Aberdeen-based consultancy Apply Altra.

As business development director, he will have an overview of all the project work being pursued by the company, which is part of the Norway-based Apply group.

Yuile has almost four decades of experience of working within contractors in the oil and gas industry. He has also been active in industry bodies such as Step Change and was an original director of Decom North Sea.

He said: “I was attracted by the commitment and team spirit demonstrated by everyone in the company. I am delighted to be part of the Apply Altra team and I aim to significantly grow the company through pursuing and winning challenging work contracts, delivering top quality products and achieving customer loyalty.”
