South Block secures its first tenants

A CONVERTED textile warehouse in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City has signed up its first two commercial tenants.

Screenmedia, which designs mobile phone applications and websites, and design consultancy Good – which lists rum brand Bacardi and property firm Land Securities among its clients – have each taken space in the £3.5 million South Block unit.

Rents charged by Wasp, which owns the office block, will be used to provide subsidised studio space for artists.

Wasp already operates 19 sites throughout Scotland, including the Meadow Mill studio in Dundee, the Patriothall gallery in Edinburgh and the Blue Door studios at Nairn, in the Highlands.

Good took 2,745sq ft in the 50,000sq ft South Block, with Screenmedia taking 2,500sq ft. Some 64 artists are signed up to use studios on the site, which has space for 25 commercial tenants.
