Source of global success of Scots firm Glencairn is Crystal clear

SCOTTISH crystal and glass company Glencairn has created 200 limited edition decanters of luxury single malt Dalmore which will be shipped around the world in time for Hogmanay as the firm raises a glass to a year of booming exports.

The 3,500 bottle of Dalmore tops off one of the most successful years in 30-year-old Glencairn's history as it benefits from a surge in the global luxury drinks market.

The East Kilbride-based firm manufactures luxury packaging for whisky distillers and other drinks companies and exports now account for 70 per cent of its business.

Scott Davidson, new product development director at Glencairn, said: "2010 has been a terrific year. We are now working with the leading drinks companies across the world creating innovative packaging for luxury and limited edition brands.

"This is a new and innovative market for the drinks industry which didn't exist a few years ago."

The firm, which during 2010 has worked with a string of major brands including Whyte & Mackay, Gordon & MacPhail and the Macallan, employs almost 30 staff. It exports to more than 50 countries.

Davidson added: "Glencairn is at the forefront as the only global supplier of custom made premium glass packaging and design."
