Sir Roger Carr departing Centrica for BAE

Scottish Gas parent Centrica has begun the search for a new chairman after Sir Roger Carr confirmed he was leaving to join defence contractor BAE Systems.

Carr, who this week stepped down as CBI president, will join BAE during the first quarter of next year. He replaces Dick Olver, who has been in the role for nine years.

BAE, owner of the Govan and Scotstoun shipyards, employs about 100,000 people worldwide. The group saw its proposed merger with European aerospace firm EADS collapse last year.

Carr has chaired Centrica since 2004 and will leave his post around the time of its annual meeting in May 2014. The search for his successor will be led by the firm’s senior independent director, Mary Francis.
