GlamCandy is expanding from its existing locations in Edinburgh, Dunfermline and Aberdeen to open a new college in Central Chambers in Hope Street.

The business is investing more than £200,000 in the centre in response to “huge” demand from Glasgow-based students.

The company is already taking on six make-up artists and tutors to work at the college, for example.

GlamCandy offers recognised qualifications accredited by the SQA – saying it provides its students a pathway with a new career in the industry.

It expects to welcome 80 HNC students and 80 pro course students in its first year in Glasgow – and a waiting list is already in place.

The firm also plans to run its teen makeup club from the new premises, while it will be opening a cosmetics shop on site, offering top brands such as Illamasqua, Kryolan and Karla Powell.

The move comes as it pursues an “ambitious” UK-wide investment programme after partnering with Julian Kynaston – the man behind cult make-up brand Illamasqua.

He said: “Our courses open up doors in one of the fastest growing industries… We have invested more than £200,000 in Glasgow to take GlamCandy to the next level, not only into another city but in other areas of the business which we are developing over the next year including e-commerce, product development and online learning.”

Creative director Ebony Smith said: “We are so excited to be finally opening in Glasgow as it has been on our radar for a while now.”
