RBS pays 93 staff more than £1m

Royal Bank of Scotland has disclosed that 93 employees were paid more than £1 million last year.

The figure compares with 428 at Barclays and 204 at HSBC receiving the same pay package.

Stephen Hester, the RBS chief executive, received no pay rise or bonus for 2012.

The bank, 82 per cent owned by the taxpayer, said four staff earned £3.5m or more and the top 10 executives, including Hester and finance director Bruce Van Saun, earned total remuneration of £21m.

That figure is 16 per cent down on 2011.
